Well, HELLO There, Fellow Traveller…
Are you getting those “Holiday Blah’s” yet? The ones you get when you haven’t gone on a vacation in a long time and are just trying to get through the everyday rat race that is your life. It is easy to miss the summer weather, lazy beach days, and to yearn for some relaxation time. If you are like me, you often catch yourself daydreaming about Caribbean resorts or wild excursions, while doing very mundane things such as waiting in line-ups or are stuck in hour-long traffic jams.
Since I won’t be able to travel for another month myself…
I thought I would share some pictures from one of my favourite vacations I took to Dominican Republic. If you have ever travelled to any of the Caribbean islands, you know that a lot of the places look the same. The beaches are gorgeous, the resorts are very nice and clean, the food is delicious, and many excursions are available for entertainment. There are some exceptions to this, and generally as a rule: You get what you pay for. What is often different between locations is the culture of the place, which is shaped by the history of the island.
Things To Keep In Mind
Although the physical attributes of a place can make for an overall pleasant or awful vacation experience, I believe the most important factor is the company you keep while on your trip. When I traveled to Dominican Republic, I traveled with my parents and brother. Since we currently live 3,000 miles apart, it is a priority for me that we make time to see each other at least twice a year. What is nice about scheduling a family vacation, for members of your family that get along well of course, is that you can all relax and have a good time without any of the worries from home.
We’re Almost There!!
What does your perfect resort vacation entail? Mine involves plenty of time set aside for lounging. I’m envisioning a leisurely swim followed up by stretching out on a lounge chair shaded by a large blue umbrella. No cell phones allowed, just a book in one hand and a nice cool beverage in the other. To make all this daydreaming a bit more realistic – let’s take a couple minutes together to enjoy the scenic views of gorgeous Dominican Republic.
