Deep Cove Brewers & Distillers? What’s This All About?
Deep Cove Brewery is nestled in a scenic area of British Columbia known as North Vancouver. Our latest Backyard Adventure took us undercover into the mysterious art of brewing beer and spiriting. The choice of visiting Deep Cove was quite simple, as Canadians we love local businesses and of course drinking beer!
What makes Deep Cove special is – they not only strive to craft delicious beverages with Canadian ingredients, they also have a passion for creating a pride in the local environment and people. After our visit we were convinced that this establishment has succeeded in this mission.
Why Visit Deep Cove?
A better question might be – why wouldn’t you? If you aren’t familiar with what they offer; think of your favorite casual pub or watering hole with its great atmosphere and social company, now imagine they offer some of the most unique and flavorful ales crafted right in your own backyard. You can enjoy a relaxing drink after a long day at work in their lounge area, or check out some fantastic live music on Friday & Saturday evenings.
Behind the symbolic wooden doors, our tour guide Matt gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the process of crafting the perfect brews. There are a lot of things going on, but here’s what happens in a simplified form:
Although the above highlights the brewing process, they also have some other spirit creation in the mix such as brandy, whiskey, gin and vodka with their distillation units.
Let’s get down to the good part – tasting the beers. Our hosts were kind enough to let me sample a variety of their brews. They were all delicious, and the amount of flavor in some of the unique blends was unreal. From hearing Matt speak, it was clear how much passion goes into the process – but to taste the evidence myself really sealed the deal.
I noticed some customers enjoying a “sample pack” of ales. As a patron, you can choose 3-5 smaller servings of a variety of ales until you find the ones you enjoy best. This is a great way to enjoy the full spectrum of what Deep Cover offers on their menu.
What Makes Deep Cove So Special?
Something that stood out to me was how Deep Cove are dedicated to creating an emotional experience with their product. The quality of the local craft beer is amplified when you see how the brands are connected to the local community. For example, Matt told us a story about how on the water of Deep Cove itself, there is a famous buoy known as the “Tin Can.” Local people have a tradition when they are out on the water to drive their boats by the tin can to signify they are back home. Deep Cove’s Tin Can Pale Ale recreates that connection to the environment in the people who live there.
Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post, however I did get to enjoy free sampler beers with my tour. Mmmmm, delicious. All opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way.
